A New IAABG Training Base (Heilongjiang) for Blood Type Serology and Genetic Testing at Harbin First Hospital
To promote communication and learning among professionals in immunohematology, blood type genomics, molecular biology, and related fields both domestically and internationally, facilitate the clinical promotion and application of new technologies and products, enhance the testing capabilities of clinical transfusion medicine staff, as well as to ensure the safety and efficacy of clinical transfusions, the IAABG has decided to collaborate with medical institutions, higher education institutions, research organizations, or enterprises to establish training bases in accordance with management regulations.
Harbin First Hospital actively sought to be designated as a "Training Base (Heilongjiang) for Blood Type Serology and Genetic Testing" as outlined in the association’s documents. After the hospital submitted the necessary materials as per the application requirements, the association's leadership conducted a preliminary review and confirmed that it met the criteria set by the association. On April 19, 2024, the IAABG carried out an on-site review and evaluation in Harbin, Heilongjiang.
The expert panel attentively listened to the introduction of the training base, reviewed relevant materials, conducted an on-site inspection of the training venue, teaching facilities and equipment, instructional materials, and faculty qualifications, observed practical teaching, and posed questions. Following a thorough assessment, deliberation, and evaluation, the expert panel expressed full affirmation and unanimously approved the acceptance.The awarding ceremony of the IAABG Training Base (Heilongjiang) for Blood Type Serology and Genetic Testing was held.
Leaders and experts participating in this ceremony include: Qingjin Zhang, director of Medical Administration and Management Division of Harbin Health Commission, Quanli Wang, chairman of the IAABG, Hongwei Yan, Party committee secretary of Harbin First Hospital, Jinyu Wu, Xiangyan Liu, Lijie Wu, Zhixiang Li, vice presidents of Harbin First Hospital, Baohua Qian, director of Shanghai Quality Control Center of Transfusion, Shijie Mu, director of the Transfusion Department of Tangdu Hospital, Hui Wang, director of the Transfusion Department of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University.
Quanli Wang, chairman of the IAABG, signed a cooperation agreement with Jinyu Wu, vice President of Harbin First Hospital, and Hongwei Yan, Party committee secretary of Harbin First Hospital, jointly licensed the base. This historic moment was witnessed by over one hundred directors and colleagues of transfusion department and blood centers from hospitals at all levels in Harbin.

Following the conclusion of the ceremony, the academic activities of clinical transfusion commenced officially, with invitations extended to the following experts: Quanli Wang, chairman of the IAABG, Shijie Mu, director of the Transfusion Department of Tangdu Hospital, Hongjun Gao, visiting professor of NHC Key Laboratory of Antibody Technique, Baohua Qian, director of Shanghai Quality Control Center of Transfusion, Yanhua Jin, director of the Transfusion Department of Harbin First Hospital. The lecture encompasses various aspects, including the classification of transfusion medicine, the interpretation of expert consensus on the preparation technology of autologous platelet-rich plasma, the application of blood type genotyping technology, the principles and advancements of rational blood usage, as well as the management of clinical transfusion and Patient Blood Management (PBM).

The training base is equipped with a multifunctional conference hall that can accommodate over 100 individuals and necessary teaching equipment and facilities, creating an optimal teaching environment. It applies a modern concept of training, as well as a mentorship team with extensive training and expertise in education and technical skills, allowing for the effective implementation of training in blood type serology and genetic testing.
The training base will be established under the leadership and support of the IAABG, with a focus on "talent cultivation, capability enhancement, and technological innovation." Research platforms will be developed in collaboration with renowned experts in the transfusion field. A training model that combines theoretical knowledge with practical operations will be employed to conduct a series of courses on blood type serology and genetic testing technologies. This initiative aims to advance the development of transfusion medicine in Harbin, effectively addressing pressing challenges in clinical blood utilization, while cultivating professionals skilled in clinical transfusion medicine testing technologies, ultimately serving the health of the broader population.
