Inaugural Ceremony of the Second Council/Standing Council of International Association of Asia-Pacific Blood Types and Genomics and New Book Launch Held in Zhuhai
On April 25, 2023, the "Inaugural Ceremony of the Second Council/Standing Council of International Association of Asia-Pacific Blood Types and Genomics" and "New Book Launch" were held in Zhuhai, China, with nearly 1000 experts in the field of blood transfusion attending offline.
In the first section, Prof. Jiwu Gong, executive vice chairman of the International Association of Asia-Pacific Blood Types and Genomics (IAABG), delivered a welcome speech to all attendees and summarized the work carried out by the association since its establishment in 2018. Then, Prof. Shuming Zhao, vice chairman of the IAABG, read out the IAABG second council's list. Quanli Wang, chairman of the IAABG, proposed the association's working plan from four aspects: improving the organizational structure, establishing scientific research funds, implementing training, and formulating standards and publishing monographs. Prof. Rong Gui, director of the scientific research and academic working committee, introduced application guidelines for scientific research projects. Yuping Chen, president of Jiangsu LIBO Medicine Biotechnology Co., Ltd. expressed that it is necessary to give full play to the role of the enterprise, so as to actively support the association's work and all activities. At the end of the first section, appointment letters of the IAABG's second/standing council were issued to relevant members by chairman Quanli Wang.
In the second section, the "New Book Launch" was hosted by director Zhanshan Zha, Changhai Hospital of Naval Medical University, with speeches by Prof. Jiwu Gong, editor-in-chief of Analysis and Quality Control of Blood Group Genes, Profs. Zhongjun Li, Rong Xia, and Shuming Zhao, editors-in-chief of Practice of Clinical Transfusion Medicine (the Second Edition), and Prof. Tongmao Zhao, main translator of Standards for Immunohematology Molecular Testing. Finally, the three books were presented to the attendees in the form of a live draw. The event was judged a resounding success through the animated atmosphere and rapturous attendees' applause.

To promote communication and learning among professionals in immunohematology, blood type genomics, molecular biology, and related fields both domestically and internationally, facilitate the clinical promotion and application of new technologies and products, enhance the testing capabilities of clinical transfusion medicine staff, as well as to ensure the safety and efficacy of clinical transfusions, the IAABG has decided to collaborate with medical institutions, higher education institutions, research organizations, or enterprises to establish training bases in accordance with management regulations.
